Sprout Social versus Later

Having used both Sprout Social and Later for my own business and my clients, I have often been asked which of the two platforms is better. Well, in my opinion both have good and bad points, in my experience there is no perfect social media management platform out there.

So, I want to help you and have a detailed look at Sprout Social vs Later, two very well-known social media management platforms that I have personally used for a number of years.

This comparison is based on my own research, my experience of using both platforms and my own personal opinion.

What is Sprout Social?

sprout social logo

Sprout Social allows you to do more with your social media strategy with the help of their all-in-one social management solution.

You can better connect with your audiences, streamline publishing workflows, work together in real time, and turn social data into meaningful insights at scale.

The app works with Instagram business accounts, Twitter, Facebook pages, Pinterest, YouTube, and LinkedIn, which are the major and probably the most important social media sites.

I have personally used Sprout Social for a number of years to help me manage my own and my clients social media profiles. I have been impressed with many of the features, but a special mention here to their customer support. On the rare occasions that there has been an issue, reaching out for support has seen a swift, and shall I say a caring, response.

What is Later?

Later social media management

Later is a platform for managing social media and a tool for putting a link in your bio for every social network.

It is designed to help you save time and grow your

business if you plan, analyse, and publish content ahead of time.

You can save time by setting up posts to be published automatically ahead of time. Instagram feed posts (single images, videos, and carousels), as well as posts on TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and LinkedIn, can be set to auto-publish.

I have used Later in the past, for about 2 years, to help me with my own and clients workflow. In my opinion, it was useful for Instagram, but if I am completely honest I didn`t feel this was the platform for me to move forward and use with other social media platforms.

Sprout Social Positives

In my experience Sprout Social is an intuitive, simple and practical social media management tool. The onboarding process takes just a few minutes to complete which leaves you with access not only your dashboard but also all of the features that come standard in Sprouts’ comprehensive service such as analytics reports or auto-posting for content on behalf of brands like Facebook Ads Manager (which has over five million users).

In my experience using this platform was pretty straightforward – everything felt easy enough.

With Sprout Social, you can do it all from one simple dashboard. The left-hand side of your screen provides access to the platform’s primary features like inboxes and feeds; while on right there are options for posts composed through keyboard shortcuts or reports that give insight into how social media marketing performed over time within a single screen.

sprout social vs later

I think this is a great platform for social media managers, large social media marketing teams. Because of the cost, in my opinion, this is not for the small business and one-man bands.

Sprout Social’s pros

  • Streamlined inbox to handle all your social conversions.
  • The dashboard is easy for beginners to use.
  • Out-of-the-box tools for publishing.
  • Set up workflows for content approval.
  • Automatic tracking of links.
  • Powerful automation features to improve the customer experience.
  • Your entire social media management system is looked at from every angle.
  • Your workflow can be measured well.
  • To work well together, you should group social channels and team members.

Sprout Social Negatives

  1. Social listening is a feature that you have to pay extra for.
  2. Trend analysis is only available on Twitter right now, but it could be made available on other social networks as well.
  3. Entry level cost is expensive compared to most
  4. Upgrades are for those that have a large team or manage many clients

Later Pro`s

Later lets you schedule posts on most of the most popular platforms, but at a more reasonable price. Later also has some features that most competing products don’t have, like a calendar view that makes it easy to see at a glance when and what posts are scheduled.

  • Easy to use: Out of all the scheduling programmes we looked at, Later was one of the simplest to use. I think that even someone who doesn’t know much about social media could use the tool without much trouble.
  • Options for analytics – This is one of the main reasons why we want to go back to Later. There are no other options like Analytics, especially when it comes to how well a hashtag is doing.
  • Story planning is also a very big plus. I haven’t seen another platform where users can plan their Instagram stories ahead of time, but Later just added this ability.
  • Posts directly to Instagram without the need for push notifications
  • Tools to help develop relevant content
  • Stores media in one convenient place
  • Ability to have multiple users in one sign on account

Later Negatives

  • Placeholder images: I write the copy for one of my team, and my co-worker is in charge of digital media like photos and videos. It’s easy for him to schedule a photo with blank text for me to fill in after him, but it’s hard for me to write the text so that he can drop in a photo after me. We usually have to work together, but if we could do things on our own, we could get more done.
  • More for Facebook and Twitter. Later seems to be mostly about Instagram. I’d love to see more features that focus on Facebook and Twitter as well.
  • Bulk uploads
  • Allow for larger file sizes
  • Provides scheduling for Instagram stories but only via push notifications so you’ll have to use your mobile to actually post to Instagram stories.

Later score

Overall Score 77%

My final verdict on Later, after using it for around 2 years, is after using it almost every day to plan and manage the social media presence of a few of my clients, is that it is a very useful tool that has a lot of great features and can be bought for a price that I haven’t seen many competitors offer.

It also has very detailed support for Instagram and TikTok, especially when it comes to scheduling stories, so if you mostly use these apps, you’ll find Later to be very helpful.
